In undergrad, I was recommended to help add music to a student film. It was my first "gig" in film music, so I enthusiastically accepted. What I didn't know was that I wasn't ready for that kind of project..nor were the people who "hired" me. What followed was a lot of confusion, lengthy emails, and a *very* awkward recording session of their *own* music (which was a fun surprise for me). Needless to say, I never heard back from them, never saw the finished film, and have no clue what happened to the project. I was never paid, either.

Fast forward, and I'm learning about Max/MSP. Our class builds this amazing granular patch lovingly nicknamed "Smacklebox", and I feed it one of the tracks from previously mentioned project. The resulting sound became my hook into ambient music, and the rest is history.
